First Impressions / Ease of Use
I’m not the most tech-savvy person in the world, but I definitely know my way around computers more than the average person—I know file managers inside and out.
I’ve put H O U R S into this handheld over the last couple of weeks, and let me tell you: I f*cking love this thing.
Depending on what frontend you use (I use ES-DE), the drag-and-drop nature of this handheld is incredibly easy to work with. That said, I do recommend understanding how file management works on Android, or following a close tutorial on YouTube.
Performance: 7/10
It plays what it needs to play flawlessly. I don’t think you’ll be running Wii U or Switch games on here, but Wii, GameCube, PS2, and Dreamcast all work most of the time. Honestly, if you spend some time tweaking settings in the individual emulators, I bet you could get a solid 45–60 FPS on almost every game.
Controls: 9/10
The face buttons are nice and punchy while still having that soft mesh feel.
The joysticks? Amazing.
The Hall effect sticks really stand out on this handheld and make everything feel smooth and enjoyable. That said, if you mostly play 3D games, having the stick below the D-pad can feel a little cumbersome.
Analog triggers? Check.
The only reason I dock a point is because the bumpers are clicky:
1. It breaks the consistency with the rest of the controls
2. They’re noticeably louder than the rest of the console
Screen
It’s not some ungodly 6K display, but it’s also not low resolution either—it honestly feels perfect.
Because of its 4:3 aspect ratio, it can display most retro content in its native resolution beautifully, and the extra vertical height helps show more of the image without feeling cramped. Colors are sharp and punchy and really breaths some life into your old retro games.
The only thing I really don't like/ the only con: THE GLASS FRONT. WHY? this thing is built extremely well. If I drop this, the plastic around will either absorb the energy or just chip but the glass... it will shatter (I feel at least) also putting it into a bag? what happens if the bag or something in the bag scratches the glass... I don't know only time will tell
ignoring that, The RG476H is the perfect device for retro gaming, some modern 3d graphical gaming and just a fun device to take with you on your adventure. You can't beat the price for the screen, controls, and overall performance. Just delete the pre installed emulators, and the AI crap and you're ready to game.
